Training that annoying barking dog

I stayed in Australia a few years ago for free accommodation by doing some pet sitting jobs, it was great!
One time though there was a dog that would constantly bark and bark and the neighbours complained and threatened to report the owners to the council.
We purchased a collar to prevent it from barking but it didn’t work, so we would squirt it with water to help it stop barking.
It took some time but it eventually worked. I was then able to enjoy the rest of my time looking after the dog with the family!
