General English

This course has a communicative focus, and develops Speaking, Reading, Writing and Listening skills.

The course is 25 hours per week and students are able to begin any Monday for any duration.

Cambridge

These courses have been designed by Cambridge University and provide a wonderful challenge for Upper Intermediate students and above. Content is adhered to through the use of specified texts over a 12 week period. Upon completion, students sit 5 papers: Reading, Writing, English in Use, Listening and Speaking.

Students who pass this course are rewarded with a certificate that they can use to access higher education or broaden their employment opportunities.

English for Academic Purposes (EAP)

English for Academic Purposes (EAP) – This is an intensive preparatory course for students who want to go to an English speaking university, Technical and Further Education institution (TAFE), or business college. Students participate in listening, reading, writing and speaking tasks, all with an academic focus. IELTS / TOEFL exam preparation is included in this course. These exams are used as an English language entrance test by almost all English speaking universities and higher education institutions. Our Academic Counsellors can give advice on further study options.

Superlink Programs

Superlink Programs allow students to study in two or more GEOS colleges in Australia and New Zealand. If you study a total of 20 weeks or more, we will pay for the airfare between destinations. Students can study any full time program they wish at these destinations. For example, study ten weeks in Melbourne then ten weeks in Auckland, New Zealand and we will pay the airfare.

What better excuse is there to improve your English whilst discovering Oceania!!

Private Tuition

The attraction of this form of tuition is that course content is organised according to the requirements of the student. Examples of requested content include interacting in business situations, reading and writing business correspondence, writing reports, making notes, summarizing, and making presentations.

Frequency and duration of lessons are negotiable, however lessons generally last two hours and run weekly for ten weeks.

Study Tours

GEOS Melbourne offers international students the opportunity to combine an English language course with a sightseeing or adventure holiday! Group tours can be designed to focus on English tuition or recreational activities, combined with homestay and a 24 hour emergency support service.

Our study tours offer the student a wide variety of cultural and recreational activities. Activities range from pleasant barbecues and picnics to day trips to such famous places as the Great Ocean Road and the Dandenong Ranges.

A group tour does not only have to focus on recreation – the English tuition can be combined with vocational courses, or can even focus on a training program for company employees or English language teachers.

We can arrange a study tour at any time of the year! Quotations and sample programs are available on request. Our tours are designed to be flexible and we will tailor-make a tour to suit the individual needs of your group. English lessons combined with a variety of organized excursions and activities. A mix of academic, cultural and social pursuits – this course is a perfect combination of work and play.

Accommodation

Homestay

The benefit of homestay is through cultural exchange and the need to constantly practise English with native speakers. Students learn about Australian culture by immersing themselves in it, experience new food, activities, and attitudes, but they are also encouraged to practise English.

Homestay fees are $200 per week which includes accommodation and food. Breakfast and dinner are supplied on weekdays, with three meals per day on weekends.

Shared Accommodation

This is a situation where students stay in a house with other people. In most situations housemates become friends and is a valuable learning experience for all.

This situation is difficult to organise in advance because it requires the student to meet the other people in the house before they make their decision. The price students pay per week is dependent upon the area and quality of housing, however the general price range is between $80-$200 per week.

Students normally move to this style of accommodation only after living in Melbourne for a few months. This tends to be easier after meeting other people from the college and outside.

Backpackers

Motivating factors in staying in backpacker style accommodation are convenience and location. Students can find this type of accommodation quickly and easily and pay around $20 to $30 per night. Students will find backpackers in many locations and this form of accommodation enables students to live a lifestyle of choice.

Backpackers are found only minutes from GEOS Melbourne College of English.
